Already on the shelves! Maybe I should just read that instead of buying a new book. Or both.

Geoff Anybody know how and where to find and make sure I'm getting the unabridged vol. 1 of Plum In The Golden Vase? I'm struggling trying to find it online, and like be sure I'm getting the right one. WHY EVEN MAKE ABRIDGED EDITIONS?!

message 9: by Jeff (new)

Jeff Bursey Dan Yack by Blaise Cendrars; that before Confessions of Dan Yack.

message 10: by Kris (new)

Kris Abridged editions drive me crazy. I usually search by ISBN, otherwise you never know what you are going to get. I think the David Tod Roy translation for Princeton University Press is unabridged -- I have to dig out my copy to check. If so, ISBN-10: 0691016143
ISBN-13: 978-0691016146

Grrr -- Powell's has it, but it says it's abridged. NYT article about his edition here: http://www.nytimes.com/2013/11/19/boo...

I know - this is the problem I'm coming up against - as soon as I think I've located the unabridged I see something indicating it is indeed abridged WTF

Hey good call I have all three volumes of the complete Metcalf on the shelves at home! Gotta get on it. Screw buying a book i'ma read the ones I have

message 16: by Kris (new)

Kris It's odd, bc Roy makes a point in his introduction about retaining lots of repetitive phrases that others left out, to be truer to the text.(BTW, if you want to take a look at a PDF version of the book to comb through the introduction, let me know.)

message 17: by Geoff (new)

Geoff Also, gonna pre-order that paperback Women and Men for damn sure

message 18: by Joshua (new)

Joshua Gonsalves In Watermelon Sugar by Richard Brautigan is a masterpiece you can read in a night. It's hilarious, sad, and surreal.

David Tod Roy is the one you want. It is not abridged. But I do recall seeing some mislabeling on some listings.

Nathan "N.R." Gaddis You may want to get Steven Moore's copy of The Combinations. It's what I'll be OverHype'ing in coming days.
