Fascinating book. Essentially, the Greeks misunderstood the Egyptians and did not know how Hieroglyphs worked but really liked allegory. Because they did not know better, the Greeks thought that Hieroglyphs were allegorical and used them to support their philosophical ideas. Rinse and repeat through heretisism, middle ages and late 1800s.
