Up to the late 1950's now, the Geneva Summit, Nixon's visit to Moscow, Khruschev's visit to the US. Looming ahead is the 1961 Berlin Crisis. Khruschev was better than Stalin, but it's still a country run by the Mafia, and Khruschev wasn't the brightest Don in the ceiling.

Khrushchev repudiated Stalin, but was also active in Stalin's purges. Parts of the story are amusing: In the Workers' Paradise, Khrushchev, as one of Stalin's lieutenants, had a five room apartment, a telephone, bathroom, and plenty to eat, while the real workers lived 20 to a room, had no telephone, no bathrooms, and went hungry. As Orwell said, all pigs are equal, but some pigs are more equal than others.

Bit of a slog, but I will persevere.
