I have always equated Bronte with Austen, and so I've avoided this book (I know, gasp!). Fortunately this story is on such a higher level than anything I've read from Austen I'm finding it hard to put down.

Why is it, in these acclaimed Victorian stories, the love interests behave like assholes? In the leads positions, I would be happy to be a spinster. I was pleased that this was not going the way if P&P, but seems I was wrong.
