End of book one. What Cherryh does well is up the tension. Characters never have a chance to rest. They are constantly hard pressed. Central to this is Vanye and his honour, and finding his place in the world.

I was in high school when I first read the Chronicles of Morgaine, and they left an indelible mark on my imagination. It's great to revisit this. Writing is very dense, textured.
