The Battle of the Crater is one of my favorite Civil War moments in that is was poorly thought out, horrifyingly executed, and yet in spite of itself, almost successful. Note to self, if you're going to rush down into a giant hole you've blown in the ground, you may need something to pull yourself back out. Doh!

Love these short essays on what could've been had certain events gone in even a slightly different way. Maybe the debate today would be about taking down Union monuments rather than Confederate ones...
