Just over a third of the way through. This book is quite different to The Whitest Flower - which was a tale of journeys across the world - being more about Ellen's inner journey back to her true self.

I'm increasingly impressed by this book. Markedly better than its predecessor. The character work is so much better - deeper. Ellen's story in this is captivating. I can't wait to see how it ends. And I care - A LOT for her, in a way that I didn't in 'The Whitest Flower'.

In 'The Whitest Flower' the historical setting was paramount to the story. In this it is really a minor concern of little importance to the story. The only relevance to history in this book is perhaps Ellen's reluctance to deal with her own. This book is about Ellen's personal inner struggles now that life has settled.
