where's the so what in these stories? where's the punch? where's the significance?

The jumping around in time doesn't feel exactly disorienting but I do feel like connections could be made that aren't. Like, if you're jumping around or skipping big chunks of time, what's the purpose? Or is it that it's too hard to form a narrative?
