Continues to be an enjoyable read. Picard, apparently trained as a lawyer, takes particular pleasure in describing the way medieval England administered the law.

Using the people in Chaucer’s prologue as a way to organize descriptions of medieval life is a great idea. Picard writes with enthusiasm and a bit of humor, while remaining sensitive to the great physical suffering that medieval life entailed.

Good overview; but I’m finding that my attention wanders. Partly because of my fragmented reading (20 books at one time) I keep losing the overall shape. I may have to read it again immediately after finishing it.
