Rancière is well-versed in philosophy so sometimes reading him feels like coming into the middle of a conversation. All the same, this important book provides trenchant critiques of how a range of social theorists and philosophers construct an image of who poor people are supposed to be to support their arguments, rather than seeing people as agents of their own lives. An important book.
