I have to say, it's a bit of a slog. This isn't a book for an afternoon's easy reading. You'll be with it for a while. Happily, it IS beginning to pick up the pace, what with the vampires and dragons and lizard-folk and whatnot. But the dialogue! Just when you start giving yourself up to the dreamworld, someone has to start talking about (and I quote) his "hair down there," and just totally kills the mood.

Dammit, I'm trying as hard as I can, but this book is just godawful. The dialogue reads like it was written by someone who'd only heard the way people talk second-hand from an alien. And I REALLY don't need to hear about EVERY time the protagonist pisses himself. I think it may be very interesting later on, but I will never know for certain. I'm out.

Okay, it's not that I'm having trouble reading the book, but I went to a comic convention over the weekend so I've got a lot of other reading to do. Had to pause the book for a while...

Not bad so far. If the cover is to be believed, it'll have dragons in it, which is always good for me. Plus it apparently deals with alternate worlds, which again, I find a plus. The language is a little off-putting. I don't mind a few fucks or damns thrown around, but this gives the impression of an author writing the way he THINKS kids talk.
