Byron calls Childe Harold 'a very repulsive personage'... but... their personalities are remarkably similar... why does Byron play himself like this...

Reading Sardanapalus now. On one hand, fuck rich and powerful people; but on the other hand, I'm gay and I love decadence

I wonder what Polidori thought of Byron's "Epistle from Mr Murray to Dr Polidori"....

Manfred was a rly refreshing read after the poem to his sister (whom he fucked btw) and the mean poem he wrote to his sick wife. Anyway I'm back on Childe Harold's Pilgrimage and I hate it so ughhhh

At least it's the last canto.

Also to be perfectly honest I prefer his shorter poems like Darkness and She Walks In Beauty and So, We'll Go No More a Roving. But Manfred, Lara, The Prisoner of Chillon was nice too

I really enjoyed The Prisoner of Chillon. It made me feel things. I have no idea why the brothers got locked up but yeah. It was a very nice poem and it made me sad.

I read Darkness twice over this round because it's my favourite poem, and the one that got me reading Byron in the first place.

Currently, I'm on Childe Harold's Pilgrimage, which I really don't enjoy because it sort of flings you around everywhere.

I was right-- Lara and his page, Kaled had some romance between them, though more on Kaled's part.

Am on The Bride of Abydos: Canto I

So far, Byron's poetry makes for an interesting study of other cultures, especially the Turks and the Greeks. He incorporates many traditions into his poetry and certainly isn't afraid to use footnotes. I'm constantly torn between reading the poetry without stopping and reading the footnotes every time.

Just finished The Giaour. Dare I say this is a (sort of) depiction of courtly love? I think it may have fulfilled the conditions if the Giaour was part of Hassam's court.

Not bad, but The Giaour is lowkey racist (?)
