I think I'm going to read this now. Just finished The Fortress of Solitude, and Kavalier & Clay feels like a logical next step.

Just finished The Fortress of Solitude, and Kavalier & Clay feels like a logical next step."i think that's a fine idea. it took me a little while to warm to it after hawthorne; yours sounds like a more natural shift, for sure. regardless, though, i'm really enjoying it. he has pretty incredible control of his tone - really funny but also poignant when it has to be, authoritative when it has to be. and it's a pretty good story, too.
Yet Chabon begins with an epigraph from Hawthorne, so maybe your shift was appropriate after all, eh?

You'd better hurry, Ivers! And yeah, the book is a lot of fun (despite some obvious depressing storylines).
