The author has gone off tract from his original intentions laid out in the intro chapter. Yet what he is writing about now isn’t arbitrarily tangential. I find he is exploring wider issues behind his idea that American spirit is built on amateurism. He’s exploring the implications of what that means. It’s not what I expected to read but a rollicking romp neverthelessless.
