Was rage the only antidote to despair?
The villain here looks veeeery bad, so don't know where this is going from here *bites nails*

"I thought you preferred brief affairs!"
"Not quite so brief!"
"Of course. You always end them yourself. When you become tired—" she almost choked on the words.
"When it is naturally over. Alas, ma'am, I do not believe it is naturally over between us."
"It was hardly a natural beginning."

What a wealth of treasure lay in that one word! Abroad!
A new to me author, the hero is delicious for now and really an exceptionally fine writing :)

Sounds very promising, Christina. Nothing is quite as thrilling when a villainous hero reforms. Looking forward to your review.

Here I was referring to the real villain, who is even more disquieting because he's cold, controlled and devious. The author is really good at portraying him as believable and not cartoonish/moustache-twirling.
Anyway, the writing is beautiful :)
