i'm jealous of people who can stay focused and read a book for hours. i can't do that anymore and it's killing me

Gaby (lookingatbooks) I used to be able to too. A couple years ago I read 85 books in four months. Now 85 books in a year is hard for me to accomplish. I feel you

Audrey Same! I heard that a side effect of depression is being easily distracted, which is probably it for me.

Aqsa Don't worry! It happens to me too, depending on the book and my mood and also on my real life stress and load of work 😅😅

You'll find an awesome book which you'll read with a relaxed mood and a little peace in real life and before you know it, you would've spent hrs reading it :)

message 13: by Sabrien (new)

Sabrien Abdelrahman I think it's related to my loss of motivation tbh

message 14: by Anthony (new)

Anthony i'm guessing you just haven't found the right book? or perhaps it's your surroundings? sometimes, to get engrossed and absorbed into a book, you need a really quiet place.

preoccupiedbybooks Can you listen to an audiobook? Or read a comic? Or how about fan fiction, that can be quite short if it’s a one shot! Or just read in short bursts then do something else? Hope this helps, good luck!

Emma This happened to me a few years ago. I'd like to echo what Jess said about what else is going on in our lives too... don't be too down on yourself about it. I love the idea of audiobooks as well... x

N. Same. I used to lock myself up in my room and read all day. The only time I would leave is to use the bathroom... forget about eating because I was too focused on reading to feel hungry. Now I am wondering how I could possibly have read that much, or if I actually made that version of myself up. No one knows, lol.
