Reaching the halfway point and I’m rapidly losing steam. The book’s not boring and I like it and I like her writing but... it’s slow. I keep waiting for *something* to happen. I don’t know where it’s going.

E.g. of said deliciousness: A Tokyo temple that feels frozen in time to ice core samples of ancient atmosphere from the Arctic. Handwriting to the intimacy of skin. ‘Wave’ and ‘person’ in the character ‘ronin’ to floating about on the sea of life. A nervous breakdown introduced through jellyfish-watching. Old women’s bodies to the passage of time. Information on the internet and memories to geodrift in ocean gyres.

At 400+ pages this is the longest book I’ve read in a long time and I keep waiting for *something* to happen. But in the meantime I love Ozeki’s way of describing things and comparing them to the most unexpected things. It’s so delicious to read. And she has a way of being so accurate and true when describing feelings. She’s almost poetic? But not in that annoying way.
