My daughter turns 18 today. I’m conflicted right now. I really want to read a good Sterek fic (preferably one with HipsterBeard!Derek) but I also feel an itty bit (LOTS) creepy perving on Stiles who, in most fics, is around 17. Maybe it’s time to browse the Supernatural fandom where at least everyone is in their 30s (or in their 1000s if it’s Castiel).

It totally get that. I usually go for Johnlock when I feel that TW is just too young.

Oh wow. No clue where to point you. You've seen the entire BBC series, right? I have some great ones, but unless you've seen all the shows it won't make sense. For a straight up Sherlock experience: 26 Pieces

LOL. Soooo true! I always feel like that when the MCs are that young. It really gets to me (my daughter is 19). That's why I'm not that much into YA. Lucky that fanfics are so varied! XD
I have this theory that women reach a certain age and our matchmaking genes express themselves. I mean, I read a lot of romance when I was younger too, but I experienced it more as myself. Now I just want those poor boys to get together and be happy. I read all over the place and enjoy more mature fics ... but there is something about the puppy piles and pack feels and loyal friendships and vulnerable but protective and badass young people that brings me back to Sterek.

I don’t mind reading Sterek but I tend to shy away from original works if the characters are really young. The whole “new adult” thing drives me nuts. I just don’t have the patience. It seems like many of my reading “rules” get set aside when I read fanfiction.
