The Nuremberg trials. Very interesting. Very sad. The moral idea of "just following orders" was broken here, as it was perfectly acceptable in that era to adhere to strict hierarchy in command. Doenitz gets 10 years only, because of the masterpiece work by his layers. The Soviets wanted a death sentence. Churchill borrows the term "Iron Curtain" from Goebbels.

In the early weeks after Germany's surrender, Doenitz at al were starting to annoy the Western leaders with his idea of a great anti-Bolshevik alliance, so they were removed. Amazing how political (in)sensitivies and deep, deep intricacies played such a large role even in the post-war chaos.
