First glaringly false note. Calling Tiam a "nerd" is anachronistic. In a dystopian Earth where there are no books, no paper, and Ava only knows Earth's history from old movies, calling scholarly Tiam a "breathtakingly gorgeous warrior nerd" sticks out like a sore thumb. Popped me right out of the story. :(

OMG, Ava is being a fucking idiot. I HATE decisions like this - especially after Tiam has just told her about the pirates and the danger to them all. STOOOPID!
