Now that I've found this (again) I keep thinking I need to keep this handy for the next time I go to England. I think a few of the properties mentioned have gone into the hands of the National Trust... but should I be using this as a tourist guide? Also, favorite line so far: Melancholy pine-trees and a forbidding pond, eminently for suicides, are fitting accompaniments of the scene of ruin.

Eureka I found the book! 1556 epitaphs hurt my brain (or rather the spelling does) I hope I can remember to look out for some of these places the next time I'm in England.

I need to keep reminding myself that when the author says "a century ago" its actually double that. Still, its fun that this book was originally published in 1907.

Now I know I've read (at least part of this) before but I figure, what the heck, give it another read. Oh, the hidden surprises one finds in boxes that were previously in storage.
