I was quickly drawn into this oral history of Lenni-Lenape elder Marion "Strong Medicine" Gould. Journalist Amy Hill Hearth provides context and organization, but so far, much of the text has been Strong Medicine's words. I'm fascinated by her memories of growing up in the 1920s and 30s, particularly that she was presumed to be black--and didn't argue, because it was better to be considered black than Indian.
