Rees' book is a nice companion to Paul Brickhill's THE GREAT ESCAPE. Both were at Luft Stalag III and share not just the life of the escapologists, but the day to day life of a POW. Food, the battle against not just the Nazi's but the boredom and separation from family, life, and the war going on beyond the wire. A great example about what people can do with a singular vision to survive.
