Twice Emma has tried to make a match for Harriet. Poor Harriet! Twice the matches have not worked out. The first expressed his love for Emma and then in sorrow at her rejection of him went and married an utterly despicable woman. I'm glad Harriet didnt end up with him! Second, the man had already been secretly engaged to another woman! Oh dear! And now, Harriet tried to play matchmaker for herself....and failed!

Mrs. Elton then said, "Nobody can think less of dress in general than I do - but upon such an occasion as this, when everybody's eyes are so much upon me, and in compliment to the weapons - who I have no doubt are giving this ball chiefly to do me honor - I would not wish to be inferior to others..."

I was only introduced to Mrs. Elton 15 pages ago, and I'm sick of her already.

...how peculiarly unlucky Mr. Elton was in being in the same room at once with the woman he had just married, the woman he had wanted to marry, and the woman he had been expected to marry...

Oh dear.

I may be wrong, but i think that Mr Elton is taken with Emma, not Harriet....and i would not be surprised if Mr Knightly ends up with Harriet Smith, as much as he thinks that she is not very bright.
