When a book is so absent of hope it becomes a bit of a slog.
The first book of the trilogy and first third of the second set up some truly fascinating mysteries, but it's hard reading feeling uneasy for a couple of thousand of pages! I guess it's the sign of a good series, that you've got to find out how everything unfurls?
