Some day I'll give Hegel's work another try. Last time I read it I was reminded of Ezra Pound's comment on Finnegans Wake - it would have to be the beatific vision itself to be worth the pain of reading it.

That must be the best criticism by far that I have heard levelled at a philosopher's prose! It seems spot on in this case, too! Hegel would of course retort that what he has to offer is better than the beatific vision, but then that's Hegel for you.
