Scientists with a task to go into Area X, whose name alone signifies something unusual, let alone that this is the 12th? mission into the area, with ALL of the previous missions having ended up with some sort of bizarre mystery.

They are going down the stairs for 2 hours, That should be about 1km underground, fascinating. I think someone is going to have a serious case of muscle burn when they go back up.

I'm not sure how encouraging it is if within the first 5 pages I'm questioning the logic of the narrative (the expedition is given devices that measure something that indicates danger but are not told what?? And they just go along with that?). Anyway, it's a short book so...
