So far, this is one of the most engaging academic history books I’ve ever read. Obviously it has a wider audience and the author (so far) brings them in while also still subtly documenting everything relevant to a historian.

Really good so far! Totally fascinating background and the kinds of harassment the shops faced as they operated are really intense and interesting.
