Would have liked a scene of Rayne with his parents showing his reaction to all the went through and their reconciliation. :(

“I love you so much, Em.” In answer she kissed the top of his head and cuddled in closer. “Love you too. Now go to sleep.” The demons that had driven him for so long had finally been laid to rest. After all these years apart, they would finally have a second chance. He was damn well going to get it right this time.

Emily stayed pressed tight against his side and tugged on him. “Come on. Come inside.” He followed her into the house, unsurprised that no one else was around. All the others were no doubt having their own romantic reunions, and he thanked God because he was too raw for an audience. All he wanted was Emily, and he didn’t want anything to get in the way of that.

She could end this for him. With Tehrazzi gone Luke could hang up his guns for good. He could have his life back. She desperately wanted that for him. Wanted him to be free to live again. Even if it wasn’t with her. Her life was fading anyway. This way she had control over her destiny. And she could save Luke in the process.

Please let him come back to me. Let me live. Give us the rest of our lives together.

The touch of his mouth on the scars brought a lump to her throat. She’d missed him. Missed this explosive passion and the intimacy between them. What she felt was too deep for tears, or words. He was healing her with his touch and kisses, and she understood that’s exactly what he’d set out to do.

The hotel bible lay there open to the book of Luke. A passage was underlined. Chapter 11, Verse 23. The words swam before his eyes. Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters. His mouth went dry. Oh my God... Luke was coming for him.

She shut her eyes going over the fight she’d had with Luke earlier, analyzing his words. I’m not over you, and I never will be. He’d seemed so sincere when he’d said it. Was he really staying away because of his job, or was he using that as an excuse? Not that it mattered. Point was, he intended to keep his distance, regardless of his feelings for her.

Having lost his last remaining shot at a future with Emily made death a hell of a lot more appealing than another twenty-odd years of this bleak existence. Without her, he had nothing. And God knew he had no desire to stick around and watch her die. Even he wasn’t that much of a masochist.

Ben and Sam are already over there. Ben’s twin, Rhys and Neveah are flying in tomorrow. He’s former Delta and she’s a trauma surgeon. If Emily goes, that’ll give her Ben as a medic and Neveah as a physician to oversee her treatment. And if you go,” he said to Bryn, “she’ll have the support she needs.
