With the constant name dropping of Dev’s friend Mal, I got the sense he’d make an appearance in this series as one of the leads. Just caved & looked it up and yep — the next book by this author is about Mal. I wonder if that’s part of the reason this feels so slow? It’s setting up 3 “worlds” — the series, Dev’s & Kyle’s, & Mal’s & Jory’s. This is a pretty quiet series to begin with but this one is bordering on dull
