Colonel Julyan, Frank, Mr. and Mrs. de Winter are talking about the weather. They're saying the temperature was "over eighty" and "over ninety". I've not noticed this before, and I find it strange. All the characters are British, the author was British, why are we talking about temperatures in Farenheit? (Don't get me wrong - I still LOVE this book.)
