Okay, so I guess the narrator was probably more like 14 or 15 at the point I last updated, but still not wholly convinced that her speech/thoughts authentically reflect her age and experience. Also the book is a bit preachy in ways that feel more like the author has an axe to grind and is forcing her views on the reader rather than leading them to draw their own conclusions. Seems to be getting better, however.

I'm having a really hard time with this narrator. I find her vocabulary as an 11 year old unbelievable, and like the author has a bone to pick with the Church as an adult that is uncomfortably pressed through the lens of a child. I really want to like this book, but I'm finding it difficult at the moment.
