Alexie wanders in and through his grief at his mother's passing as well as other personal, cultural, and physical hurts and tragedies. He uses the metaphor of his mother's quilting as the book's creative structure. I'm glad I read this memoir but I suspect my appreciation of the powerful passion and prose is lessened as I felt the stories and pages were more cobbled then stitched together.
