At first this book reminded me a bit of a Terry Pritchett novel, but it was not as humorous. I did enjoy the world in which it was set and was quite willing to forgive the parts that did not quite seem to fit (beavers and mice apparently about the same size). I was less willing to accept the completely improbable/impossible twist in the plot.
