In the book 13 Reasons Why, so far Clay Jensen recieved a package of Hannah Backers tapes and they say he's responsible for her death. From reading so far, I think Clay's going to be the 13th person on the list because the 13th person has the biggest responsibilty according to Hannah. I think he'd be the 13th person because the author wanted to twist the story and make her death more on him, than he even realized.

The further I'm getting in the book, the better the book's been getting. It makes me want to keep reading and not put it down because I'm so eager to find the thirteenth person and what they did and if its Clay. I can't believe Clay still hasn't told anyone anything and I'm still wondering if he's going to, or if he's going to run into someone who knows he's listening to it and knows what he did. It seems as when Clay's listening to the tapes he always wants to stop and throw them away, but at the same time he knows he needs to keep listening. In the book, the author wrote the book as Hannah speaking out of the tape which is always italicized, and what Clay's doing in normal print which makes it easy to follow.
“You don’t know what goes on in anyone’s life but your own. And when you mess with one part of a person’s life, you’re not messing with just that part. Unfortunately, you can’t be that precise and selective. When you mess with one part of a person’s life, you’re messing with their entire life. Everything. . . affects everything.” Page 201. Not only is this quote a good message, but it is the whole storyline of the book. The most random people had an impact on Hannah Baker, and for some of the smallest reasons too; but the smallest things had stuck with Hannah more than just longer than awhile, she held onto them for years, and it continually was bringing her down. Those little things in her life were piling up until she couldn't handle it anymore. They pushed her over the edge and she commited suicide.
