This passage is awful: "[Buddhism in India] preached that there was no gender distinction. [Buddhism in China], however, [...] became polluted by the joint misogyny of Taoism [...] and Confucianism." This is far too simplified and biased by the modern world. Many Indian texts say that women are more corrupted than men, and Tang China took many of the nondiscriminatory elements of Indian Buddhism as key points.
