You lost me as potential lesbian.
Ok here is the thing, she is already going to an all white school during a time when such a thing could get a her killed or worse. Do we really have to throw sexuality into the mix as another reasons she could die? I mean this gives cause for her family or friends to kill her as well. The love interest is white. Fiction is fiction is fiction. But this is stuff that kills.

So far it is not terrible. Only got maybe three or four pages into it. The dialogue seems to fit modern books. Back then people were educated but still used a lot more half words and slang I think. The kids all sound like adults with the way they talk. Honor roll or not no kid sounds like that.
