If I didn't feel obligated to review this book, I would put it down and move on. I am now halfway through and I'm utterly bored. There's nothing "fast-paced" about this story, as the back of the book states. The characters are two-dimensional, there are no exciting little incidents, no hint of things warming to a boiling point. In a book about arson, I expect a little more fire!

I think I must have just reached the big climax but, since there was no building suspense, I can't be sure. There are still 25 written pages left and I'm hoping the author does something amazing with them. Otherwise, this is a total flop.

Nearly two-thirds of the way through it and still nothing exciting. *yawn*

The flowery language has calmed down, thank goodness. That said, I'm over a third of the way through and something interesting has only JUST happened. Thus far, it's been pretty boring. Also, the book jumps around a lot. Not just from one piece of the story to another, but through time as well, with no clear indication it's going to happen. So far, it's like a tedious, repetitive case of whiplash.

There's so much imagery -- so many adjectives, adverbs, metaphors, and similes -- that it's tough to read. I've read authors who wrote similarly in the beginning, then toned it down as the book went on. I'm hoping Even does the same.
