Ok, guys! I have a serious question. Can I do "Marrying Winterborne" by Lisa Kleypas as a standalone or not? This is the second book in the series "The Ravenels".

I guess you could....but you'll like it so much more if you have the background from the first book!

I agree with Melanie. I think that you will enjoy future installments more. As for the first book, I wasn't overly enthralled with the lead characters or their romance but it wasn't a bad book at all. It is my least favorite in the series but it is still plenty charming and the writing is brilliant.
FWIW, The Wallflowers and The Hathaways are my favorite Kleypas series. Although interestingly enough the first books in those series are my least favorites, too! Haha. But overall the series are so delightful.

I bought the third book of wallflowers series because it's the most famous one and Lorraine said I can do it as a standalone. I'm quite excited for Hathaways series too especially Mine till Midnight but I'm only going to do that one on books because I saw the audio isn't unabridged and the listeners said it's a bit different from the book. What a shame though. :)

Yes, you can do Devil in Winter as a standalone but I loved the second book It Happened One Autumn too.
As far as the Hathaways I ended up liking the fifth book, Love in the Afternoon, the best. It surprised me because I didn't think I would.
Either way you will have a lot to keep you busy☺

Yes, still, my very favorite is MM is it's my primary read and listen. But every once in a while, I love listening to historical romances on audio. The voices are so soothing and the stories are witty and funny. I love wise heroines. Thanks for the rec because now I'm totally interested in "in happened one autumn" and I have extra credits burning holes in my pocket so I will check it out on audio. I'm lucky that you are my book buddy because I love reading your reviews on this historical romances. <3
Honestly, I almost didn't listen to the first book either b/c, you're right, the reviews aren't great . . . but I REALLY liked book 1. I thought it was much better than the reviews suggested. It's the same narrator for the whole series and she's fabulous! But if you're not planning to do the entire series, I say 'go for it' and just read Winterborne. I think book 1 is more important as a precursor to book 3 than book 2. Winterborne and Helen's relationship begins in book 1, but it is recapped at the beginning of book 2.

It seems interesting enough and I'm decided to devour the whole series. :) Plus, I love the narrator. ;)
