It took a while to get through but I became enthralled and could not put down, especially towards the end. Although I knew how it ended, it was still sad and I sympathized for the family. Likewise, I sympathized with the Southerners as they bowed to the Union arrogance after the surrender. Overall, Ms. Croons did a fabulous job transcribing these journals and what a treasure they are to have in print.

A little difficult to read, perhaps because it is written on a day-to-day basis but the content is very interesting and being from Macon, GA myself, I can personally identify with some of the homes and other buildings that LeRoy writes about. I am beginning to feel that I personally know LeRoy and his family and look forward to reading more soon.
