Terrific book if you're from CA and a baseball fan. Lots of amazing detail. Ty Cobb in Atherton. Stargell, Pinson, Morgan, Curt Flood all in Oakland at the same time--with Billy Martin just north in Berkeley. O'Malley and Stoneham, etc. Wonderful photos, too.

Great so far. A history of baseball along with a history of California. Nelson is a thorough historian and an exemplary writer. The photos are worth the price of the book in and of themselves, but the text outdoes the photos. I can't wait to read more.
