More than half this book is illustrations, so I’m deeper into than it seems.

Yet another translator, tailoring for an American audience, makes me wonder: are there people picking books unaware that it is written by a German author traveling in India? Do people really expect that author to refer to things in miles? Those concessions take me out of the moment rather than involving me further.
