On page 152 of The Kick Off, Jamie just had gotten into an argument with Dillon which left McGiven unmarked which lead to a goal for the opposing team meaning Jamie’s team was losing. Jamie is full of anger. For example, when the other team scored he was mad and afraid that all of the players where going to blame the goal on him and his anger towards Dillon.

In this part of the book, Jamie is playing with the A’s, and doesn’t want to blow it. They are playing against their rival team The Grove, and they are losing 1-0. Jamie knew that this was his only chance to show Mardsen, Jack, the whole A team, and a special guest, Kenny Wilcox how good he really was. He finally got to show everybody what they have been waiting for with a clear, open shot on goal.
