While the liberals wanted legal participation in government and worked for the reform rather than the destruction of the monarchical state, the radicals, adopting a priori revolutionary attitude, supported the ideas of popular sovereignity, universal suffrage, a single chamber, and even a republic; they did not share the liberals' regard for dynasties and wanted a state which would be one and indivisible.
