“You were going to give up your music. You bought me my dream house and you were going to live there with me whether you could stay in the band or not.” His eyes crinkled as he caught on to where I was going with this. He dropped his forehead to mine. “And you gave up your dream house so I could have you and my music.”

“Doesn’t look like you’re in too bad shape,” she grumbled. “You’re out of bed and dressed. I saw you eating a couple of those sliders going around earlier. I’d say you’re doing a lot better than Lily right about now.” I straightened as cold fear gripped my chest. “Lily’s not eating?” “Or getting out of bed or showering.”

Will was right there, looking at me, waiting. What did he expect? I thought about life on the road. It would be like living in foster homes, but worse. Instead of lasting months at a time, our stays in each place would only last a day or two, maybe a week or two in some spots, before we uprooted and moved on again.

None of the plans I had involved a picture-perfect house on a picture-perfect street in a picture-perfect town. Just the thought of it made my feet itchy. But as I looked down into her beautiful face, her eyes shining and full of hope as she looked up at me, I didn’t have the heart to stomp on her dream.

How nice for all of the rich and beautiful people at the party that in addition to all the other wonders fate rained upon them, they got soulmates, too. Not that I was bitter or anything. Will’s lips tipped up and the corners of his eyes crinkled. Great. I get the rock star who was hot, sweet, spectacular in bed and a mind reader. I rolled my eyes at him and he outright grinned.

“I’ll live.” For some reason I whispered the words. The moment felt too intimate to speak any louder. What the heck was wrong with me? “You rendered her speechless, made her giggle, and then when she spoke no sarcasm came out.” Maggie captured Will’s attention again. “Don’t mean to interrupt, but just saying. Those might be the first three signs of the apocalypse.”

“You’re…you’re Will Canter.” Her stuttering brought me back to reality in an instant. Shit. For the first time since our first single hit number one on the billboard charts, I had regrets about being a rock star. For some reason, I didn’t want this girl to be just another groupie. And I wanted it with a vengeance that shocked me.

“Come on. I’m losing out on tips with every passing second.” And I needed every last one of them. The countdown was on. Heaven only knew how much time I had left to save up for the down payment for my dream house. And that’s the only reason Maggie had been able to convince me to haul my cookies into Manhattan in full-on slutty Santa gear.
