I put this book back on the shelf, as I was having some ethical issues with the authors reasoning about violence and NOLA. I am picking it up today, as I just read the Uncle Lionel Batiste who's wake is today was embalmed and put standing against a lamppost for his wake. The investigation behind circum-atlantic death rituals must but be continued! There is no other choice!

Interesting premise, but not sure I buy the evaluation of the performance of violence. Perhaps I am used to more stat based sociology ideas of social issues, but it seems deeply problematic in a few ways so far, but we shall see how it goes...
