I started this book months ago and I just picked it back up today. But a line really caught my attention. It says, "...in a neighborhood trembling on the edge of something called urban renewal, or later called gentrification." That got me thinking about how urban renewal is gentrification because the effect is the same. Poorer people are pushed out so that folks with more money can come in.

I find that I'm really loving these introspective snippets of jewell's life. I relate even though our generations of life are different. It is nice to hear someone speak my thoughts from a similar perspective.

It's taking me forever to read this book but that's because it's what I read in between book club books when I'm not behind. Anyway, I love the way Jewell Gomez thinks and talks about her experience of life. I'm saving my deeper thoughts for my review.
