The Illustrated Man has many different short stories, so it has many genres. All of the stories are based in fantasy/science fiction. Some of the stories are historical fiction. There were a few stories that had the plot in history, but it was set in the future. There were also some dystopian stories.

The antagonist in “The Long Rain,” is the weather on Venus. It is always raining. At first, there were 4 people. One man was killed by an lightning. After they found that the first sun dome was destroyed, one man went crazy. While walking the next sun dome, one of the remaining men knew he was going crazy and shot himself. Only 1 of the original 6 men lived and got to the sun dome because of the weather on Venus.

As I am reading, I am constantly asking myself questions. For example, at the end of “The Veldt,” when George and Lydia Hadley got eaten by the lions, I was wondering how that happened because George said they were artificial. Also, after George turned off the house, he was sucked up the flue to his room. I didn’t understand why he was able to be sucked into the flue with the house turned off.
