Wow, that's disappointing. GR is for readers. I guess some authors can't handle honest reviews and discussions that go beyond fawning.

FB is for groupies. I mean I am one too, but readers rarely say anything critical on FB. It's all, I'm so excited and I loved this book.

I absolutely hate author GR bashing. If it weren't for GR, I wouldn't even be reading their
books!

YES, YES, YES. I am seriously upset and really want to say something. Some of the comments are atrocious and I am taking them personally.

I only started following authors on FB because I felt I was missing out on some of the Indie authors books since they don't get added here right away.

My next question is, why do you ask me to review here if you think this such a horrible place?

Mind sharing the list? 😉 (Message is fine since I totally get if you don't want to post it here) I just would appreciate knowing since I'm not on FB and I only follow a few authors on Twitter.

I always take this type of behavior into consideration when I decide which authors to read. I try to avoid giving my money to jerks.

It is trying to be explained that it is because of a 1 star review on a book that hasn't even been written yet. Readers have tried to jump in and explain maybe the person did it in error since it looks like they are very new to GR but now all the authors are chiming in and some of the comments are downright hateful.

Some of these authors I am planning to meet in Virginia in 2 weeks. Ugh.

NICE!! Wow! She then went on to state her ARC team has to remind her to add her books here. Um, if your book is not here I will not ever see it. Just sayin'.

Wow. Way to endear herself to readers! Not to mention potential customers since an author is also a businessperson (and this one is apparently a bad one if she doesn't realize that businesses shouldn't insult their customers). After that, who would reward her with their hard-earned money and leisure time?

I want to copy this and post it on FB!!! Well said. And I totally agree. This is why I am upset. I get that they don't want to read reviews but I feel like that isn't what is happening now.

Feel free! With or without the credit. I don't mind because I detest this type of behavior (by authors and readers alike) and I think it is important to speak out. I don't consider it trivial run-of-the-mill "drama" because I think that it can have a chilling effect on reviewers. And that is not okay.

That said, I do appreciate when authors show their asses so I know not to patronize them.

I am very unhappy about this. I don't think it is fair to be lumped in with whatever or whoever these trolls are. I don't even see any trolls! I'm a grown up and wouldn't follow someone on here that just was here to bash authors! I am friends with and follow people who will tell me the best books to read for God's sake! I am not here for fake news, lol!

It's being spun as a joke between authors and no authors are commenting now. It is fucked up.

Disappointing...disheartening. This is why I don't do social media anymore (other than GR); people show their asses, reveal their true characters and then play it off as a joke or somehow not what they meant to say.

Well, fuck her very much. I've had more than one author tell me my reviews made all the difference in getting their book out there, and I post reviews only on GR.

Yeah, I knew I should have never started following authors on FB. It is all their politics and complaining and nothing but fangirling/boying from the posts. It is either not my thing or not honest.

My last post said just that, I feel safe here.

It just sucks ya know? Where do they want reviews and do they only want 5 stars? They want lies? They are stating it is the viscous and hateful but where are they? I've been here for going on 9 years and they aren't coming across my feed. I know they are around but there are more friends and common ground then that.

Just ugh. Ruined my day.

There are very few trolls who are never friended and whose comments are reported, but it's mostly intelligent people talking about books.

It sucks when someone gives your book one star before it's out and with no explanation. Often, it's an accident. The GR mobile site is horrible.

But even if people do truly rate your book one star, you have to let the book and all the other reviews speak for themselves. Readers can see through the negatives reviews to make their own decisions. We're not sheep.

Baaaahhhh! Ha! Just kidding. Exactly Dani. I am very offended by being lumped into the troll bucket and being made to feel like this site has nothing to offer. My God, I would DIE without GR. My books and my friends live here.

I probably should have just stayed out of it but well, I was hurt and offended plus a little confused.

Maybe the first rule of authoring should be stay off Goodreads maybe it should just be stay off review sites and then we wouldn't get our feelings hurt.

There is a troll that shows up every few months that just 1 stars all the MM books, I think because it's MM.
But that still doesn't excuse the authors behavior! The amount of times at EPC that I heard that GR was a TOXIC place, was staggering! It really put me off a few authors.

And could not agree more, FB is for the fans while GR is for DISCUSSION of books and for the readers:-)

It has all turned into this is a joke between authors, we love your reviews on Goodreads, we can't wait to meet you in Virginia etc. but to me the damage is kind of done. I literally have notes all over the place and carry a notebook and calendar with me everywhere to keep up with what I'm reading, when reviews are due etc. and to find out that they hate this place is crazy. I wish they had just stated that they should stay away from reviews and not Goodreads.

Line, I had it happen in San Diego at GRL too. It's ugly. I wish I could find a Goodreads t-shirt so I could wear it proud at the event.

You're totally right!! I mean what do they want? Readers that only love and 5 star all their books???
And yes, we all hate the trolls that rate books before they're out (without having read the book) or just 1-stars because they're MM, and yes it's annoying that GR won't delete these accounts (the troll accounts), but the community I've found here compared to the FB -drama and the EPC-drama and whatnot...
I could not agree more, that it's disheartening they're so busy calling GR all kinds of things, while at the same time they're asking for reviews... *sigh*

Is somebody here creative? We should totally design a proud GR t-shirt for all these kinds of events! I would gladly wear one as well<3
