You know, I have ups and downs with this biography but it just said that John, Duke of Bedford (one of Henry V's brothers) played the role of Cinderella and I'm a bit bewildered but, you know, I'd read a retelling of Cinderella with Bedford in the title role.

Finished with the first two parts of the biography, which are about Henry's life and reign, now onto the analysis of Henry's exercise of kingship (just read the chapters on the army and navy and the rule of Normandy).

Allmand is very brisk in his approach to biographising Henry V. It may be because this is a "political biography", but it is really noticeable. For example, Henry V's injury at the Battle of Shrewsbury is dealt with in one sentence and a footnote (by contrast, Christopher Given-Wilson gives a couple of pages in his Henry IV biography - and that's also a political biography and part of the Yale Monarch series.)
